In partnership with the Torch of Wisdom Foundation, Public Service Credit Union put on a Financial Reality Fair for teens and young adults. A Reality Fair is an event where teens find out how to budget for "real life". First, participants select a career choice and answer some questions based around that choice. From there, they were given a salary and a monthly income to use to budget their expenses. They had to budget for the necessities: shelter, transportation, food, leisure, etc. Their salary and expenses were realistic based on current costs of living- They had to account for taxes, student loans, health insurance etc. Besides learning a lot about personal finance and budgeting, this was an experience that mimicked real life and really gave these young adults a taste of the responsibilities that come with growing up.
