WFCUs Operations Specialist, Gail Cone and her Husband, Ed Cone Volunteered for Rise Against Hunger
Rise Against Hunger was founded in 1998 by a United Methodist Minister hoping to end hunger all over the world. Their belief is that ending hunger is more than just feeding people. This led Rise Against Hunger to focus its feeding programs to areas where they can have a real impact and expand their hunger-fighting programs beyond meal packaging.

Rise Against Hunger meal packaging volunteers produce millions of nutritious meals annually that are then distributed to partners in countries around the world. They ensure the meals distributed by those partners are used as a tool to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labor.

In early December, my husband and I participated in a 1½ hour shift at the Raleigh, North Carolina warehouse location. There were approximately 250 people on our shift and we packaged about 46,000 meals. It truly was a rewarding experience and we plan to sign up and help them again in the very near future. They have events all year long and are happy to schedule an event at your location. Visit their website at www.riseagainsthunger.org for more information.
